The new academic year of the school was inaugurated on 7th February, 2018. The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo hills, Shri Ram Singh, IAS, was the Chief Guest and Shri Swapni Tembe, IAS, SDO (Civil), Dadenggre was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest said it was an honour to be able to be present on the opening day of the school. In his lively speech he exhorted the students to cultivate healthy habits. While academic achievement is important he said that a person should grow in all other aspects of life. He further observed that since people in the cities are originally from villages, he encouraged students to take time off and spend time in rural areas at least once a year during vacation.
Later writing in the visitor’s book he noted, “Don Bosco School is a premier and prestigious educational institution run on the Ethos of St. John Bosco. It was an honour to interact with the faculty members and address the students on the occasion of the opening day of the academic year”.
Expressing happiness, the Guest of Honour said it was wonderful to be a guest at the opening ceremony of the school. The first day is always full of energy, enthusiasm and hope he said as he urged the students to achieve academic excellence. Students should also take up hobbies to make their life colourful, he advised the young students. He also offered himself to conduct counseling workshop for senior classes.
Earlier the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, the principal, parents, teachers and student representatives lid the lamp to inaugurate the new academic year 2018. The Principal, Fr. Albert Thyrniang while welcoming the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, other guests, teachers and students, presented a brief report of the activities of the last academic year 2017. Dance and Music performances marked the solemn inauguration of the academic year 2018.
